In addition to her recent interview with ACS Axial, Dr. Karen de la Vega Hernández was also recognized as part of the ACS Publications Hispanic Heritage Month Campaign: Trailblazers & Pathways.
This special edition commemorates Hispanic Heritage Month by highlighting the significant achievements and pioneering contributions of Hispanic and Latinx chemists and chemical engineers. It also amplifies the voices of scientists who are driving innovation in their fields and inspiring the next generation.
Karen contributed with both an editorial and cover artwork titled “Deep Roots, Boundless Horizons”, reflecting on how heritage shapes creativity and resilience in the lab, and how science thrives across cultures. Through this campaign, she emphasizes the importance of diversity in research and shares a message of encouragement for young scientists:
“Each story in science is a lantern passed forward. May this one remind young scientists that the path is wide, and there is space for their light too.”
